Care or Control?

Two women are killed every week in the UK by their former / current partners. And on top of that shocking statistic, 10 women commit suicide every week as a result of suffering from domestic abuse.
We need to remember that domestic abuse is not just about men abusing women. Abuse happens in same sex relationships too and within families e.g. an adult child abusing an elderly parent.
One of the really important things to help tackle the problem of domestic abuse is to keep raising awareness. This helps to stop it from being swept under the carpet (“just a domestic”) but also to help victims understand that abuse is much more than physical violence. It is also about control.
For advice or guidance you can talk to your Housing Officer or contact Domestic Violence Support Telephone: 01422 323 339.
